    Yes. Colorado law counts a golf course’s playing areas, from the driving range and tee boxes to chipping and putting greens, as functional turf. USGA agronomists treat a synthetic tee line as the grass tee’s partner for winter, wet and frosty days, and suggest synthetic for target greens and bunker banks. Some town codes add limits, so check yours first.

    How Long a Synthetic Turf Sports Field Lasts

    How long does a synthetic turf sports field last, and what does replacing it involve?

    Most synthetic sports fields last 8 to 12 years; the Synthetic Turf Council says 8 to 10, and heavy use shortens that. Replacement swaps the carpet; the infill is reused or hauled away. The stone base, drainage and shock pad can often stay if sound. Northern Colorado schools and cities budget for it in bonds, levies and capital plans.

    Should our school, park or club choose a synthetic or natural grass field in Northern Colorado?

    It depends on the hours the field must carry and the water it is on. Grass stays far cooler in summer, but here it needs rest, irrigation through drought years and time to dry out after March snow and May rain. Synthetic plays through most of that and saves irrigation water, yet runs hot on summer afternoons and needs grooming.

    Synthetic Turf Field Maintenance in Northern Colorado

    What maintenance does a synthetic turf sports field need through a Northern Colorado year?

    Brush every four to six weeks and sweep as needed; measure infill on a grid and top up where play concentrates; decompact and deep-clean once or twice a year. Northern Colorado adds snow cleared only for scheduled games, cleanup after chinook windstorms, and heat rinses planned around 2026 water rules. GMAX-test at least yearly: ASTM’s limit is 200.

    Turf for Dog Daycares, Kennels and Dog Parks

    Can a Northern Colorado dog daycare or boarding kennel use artificial turf in its yards, and how do they keep it from smelling?

    Often, yes. Colorado’s PACFA kennel rules never mention turf; they require drainage whatever the surface, daily waste pickup, disinfecting, and replacing outdoor substrate that urine has soaked or that smells. New yards also face town turf codes. Odor control is drainage to an outlet your utility approves, never a storm drain, and a daily clean-disinfect-enzyme routine. Not legal advice.
